2. Scheme
bridges the social barrier among tribal groups
Members of the tribal communities like Kurichiya and Paniya are constrained
by social barriers in their interactions. There is no close interaction
among members of these tribal communities. With intervention of NREGS
work in Vellanunda Gram Panchayat of Mananthavadi Block in Wayanad
District in Kerala, the social barriers began to disappear. The initiative
of Vellamunda Gram Panchayat President paved the way, to attract tribal
community members to the NREGS works, he initiated one of the works
(Valaramkunnu - Koyitappara road formation) in Ward No.19 solely for
ST members from Kurichiya, Paniya and Kattunaikka. The Gram Panchayat
President took care that each tribal worker was paid a reasonable
amount during the work as part-bill so that they get attracted towards
the Scheme. The social barriers between the members of Kurichiya and
Paniya communities have come to a naught due NREGA.

Gram Panchayat (Kante Block of Ranchi District), where cultivation
of Pekchi (locally used for making Sag from its leaves and vegetable
from its stem) has been started on the bank of a pond constructed
