Solution Exchange for the Climate Change Community in India

Solution Exchange, an initiative of the UN agencies in India, builds 'Communities of Practice' where development practitioners with similar interests connect to collaborate and share knowledge towards the objective of problem-solving. As a member of a Solution Exchange Community, you have the support of fellow practitioners in solving your problems. Communities of Practice are organized around national development priorities and the Millennium Development Goals, contributing to their successful achievement. Members come from all types of institutions, namely - government, NGOs, private sector, academia, activists, multi-lateral and bilateral agencies - to interact on an ongoing basis, build trust, and strengthen their work as a group.

Key benefits include:

  • Connecting people with common interests

  • Pooling together of similar experiences

  • Access to practitioner knowledge

  • Providing a wide range of solutions

  • Collaboration for developing and testing innovative ideas

  • Increasing development effectiveness

How it works
Everyone in a Solution Exchange Community of Practice is subscribed to an email discussion group moderated by a senior domain specialist (Moderator). When you face a challenge and would like help from your colleagues, you e-mail your query to the Community Moderator. The Moderator then sends it to all members of the Community. Other members respond with advice, experience, contacts or other suggestions to help you out. After two weeks the query closes and the Moderator synthesizes the discussions into a "Consolidated Reply" - a synopsis of the responses together with the additional resources recommended (websites, readings, experts or organizations), that is circulated to the Community.

Solution Exchange for Climate Change
The issue of Climate Change is rapidly gaining attention, both amongst practitioners and the general public. There is, however, no credible discussion forum in India, where practitioners can share experiences and knowledge and help each other in addressing Climate Change issues. The Solution Exchange Community of Practice (CoP) on Climate Change has been set up to To respond to this felt need. The primary focus of the Climate Change Community is on changes taking place due to the build up of carbon and greenhouse gases and efforts to mitigate these changes (mitigation). The secondary focus is the Climate Change impacts on the environment, and consequent impacts on human development (adaptation). As part of our effort to address this important issue, the Climate Change Community will be running queries on the topic of Climate Change. We hope you will participate actively in our discussions and suggest issues of importance for the Community to take up.
