About the Climate Change Community

The Climate Change Community’s mission is to connect people with common interest, pool together similar experiences, offer knowledge on demand, provide wide range of solutions; facilitate collaboration for developing, testing innovative ideas and increasing development effectiveness. The Community leverages practitioner’s knowledge and the enormous development experience of the UN to expedite the achievement of India’s development goals and MDGs.

It is also critical to identify high priority areas related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, disseminating information for knowledge sharing to achieve the developmental objectives of India’s Five Year Plans (12th Five-Year Plan) and the various National Missions set up under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).

The Community endeavours to draw attention towards the changes taking place due to the build up of greenhouse gases and efforts to mitigate and adapt to these changes .The Climate Community is also keen to promote south-south cooperation through members from other countries and collaborations with other knowledge networks.

Specialized activities in Climate Change Community

  • The community provides power point presentations of the Consolidated Replies (CRs) posted by the Community.
  • The Community Posts regular FOR INFOs highlighting latest developments, publications, job opportunities etc.
  • Daily updates of UNFCCC Climate Change Conferences are provided and a summary and analysis is shared after the conclusion of the conference for the last three years in succession.
  • Resource Person and Moderator,Climate Change Community, provided technical assistance as an author to the “Low Carbon Lifestyles” toolkit published by UNDP/GEF SGP, Centre for Environment Education as part of the Project entitled Low Carbon Campaign of the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi, India.
  • Paper on “Integrating ecotourism and REDD Plus mechanisms in protected area management” by M. Verma, R. Jalan, S. Mehra, P. Batra, C.  Khanna and G. Shahi based on inputs fromClimate Change Communityqueries have been submitted for publication in the International Journal of Forestry Research.
  • Providing inputs to the National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC) under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) for linking with practitioners, technical inputs related to design and implementation of the mission. Inputs were provided to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India for identifying resource persons for the National Mission on Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem. 
  • Daily Knowledge sharing on important issues with Energy Environment Unit, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 

Climate Change Community Partnerships

Community Partnerships, besides Sponsors or Host organisations, the system provides for partnership constructs, each construct must have (a) Partnership type, (b) Organisation that is partnered with, and (c) Output. Create relevant RR if needed before linking to them.
