About the Water Community

The Community’s mission is to bring together practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds on a public and impartial platform to debate and inform policy and programmes on water and sanitation. The Community achieves this through electronic discussions, action research and face-to-face events. It seeks to inform government policy and programmes, assist NGOs and practitioners and provide quality inputs to the sector based on tacit knowledge. It seeks to supplement this tacit knowledge with explicit knowledge where appropriate.

The community

  • Reaches out to decision makers/influencers who affect public life, government and the private sector
  • Creates public awareness of necessity for safe water, issues of access, management and distribution
  • Public awareness about sanitation, and links with health and hygiene
  • Seeks to become a reliable and comprehensive source of advice, reference and information on water & sanitation useful to both general public and policy makers

Specialized activities in Water Community

The Community seeks to enhance the impact of tacit or experiential knowledge with evidence-based information through research and knowledge publications. These include research on selected topics and compendia on the major themes of the community.
