Note from the Facilitator

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the facilitating agency for the Disaster Management Community of the Solution Exchange initiative of the UN System in India. This platform, we hope would connect the development practitioners interested in Disaster Management in India and would facilitate sharing of experiences and knowledge with the objective of increasing the effectiveness of individual efforts.

UNDP has been supporting the national and state Governments for more than a decade to strengthen the disaster management capacities in India. Through our involvement in this platform we hope to strengthen our partnership with the agencies/departments and individuals concerned with various aspects of disaster management.

Vulnerability reduction has been identified as a priority area of support under the GoI-UNDP Country Programme (2008-2012). During this period, UNDP would be working along with other UN Agencies and partners as per the UN Development Assistance Framework formulated in consultation with the Union Planning Commission. The discussions and exchange of views through this platform would be extre3mely useful for us to enhance the effectiveness of our technical cooperation for development in India.

We express our commitment to strengthen this initiative and make it broad-based and encompassing diverse viewpoints, so important in the democratic milieu of India.
