Members of the Water Community discussions provided inputs to help in the design and development of additional finance mechanisms for integrated watersheds as an alternative to a subsidy approach.

A query on alternative finance mechanisms posed by Nandkishor Agrawal, German Development Bank, New Delhi. The Consolidated Reply provided experiences and lessons learned on alternative finance mechanisms for watershed development, and examined the potential for scaling up successful models.

The query poser used the experiences and models provided were used by the query poser to design and develop additional finance mechanisms for integrated watersheds as an alternative to the full subsidy approach, which makes programs entirely dependent on the availability of grant funding and ultimately confining the expansion of programs. He was also able to identify key people with skills and experience to provide further inputs in developing such alternative finance mechanisms.
