During the summer of 2006, the National Commission on Farmers (NCF) held a wide consultation on the draft National Policy for Farmers, before submitting it to the Government. As part of the consultation process, members of the Food and Nutrition Security Community deliberated on the draft and submitted feedback in the form of suggestions and comments.

These points were included in the draft, and the Commission submitted the revised policy to the Government of India in October 2007. The policy for farmers was accepted by the Government with some changes following consultations and now has been submitted to the Parliament.
