Smita Premchander, Sampark, Bangalore raised the issue of microfinance impact assessment in a query on the Microfinance Community in November 2006. Various members responded to the query, including several senior researchers and organizations contributing valuable suggestions.

A second query on how to collect evidence from the ground was floated to the Community in September 2007. Members' contributions highlighted both impact approaches as well as evidence. Sampark then compiled all the research studies it has done previously and all relevant resources shared by members, and produced a short paper (Size 104 KB) summarizing the findings and acknowledging Solution Exchange as well as independent contributions.
