An e-discussion helped the Gender Community formulate a Memorandum for the Ministry of Women and Child Development on domestic violence…
On 26 October 2006, the Parliament passed the Domestic Violence Act (DVA), drafted by the Lawyers’ Collective. This marked a new commitment on the part of the government to ensure a violence-free environment for women and now NGOs are helping to raise awareness about the issue among implementing agencies and civil society organizations.
The Gender Community held an e-discussion on implementation of the DVA. Based on those inputs, the Gender Community Resource Team helped to formulate a Memorandum for the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Lawyers’ Collective is using suggestions from the e-discussion to develop monitoring indicators for the Act
Now the Kerala State Planning Board has asked the Gender Community to hold a workshop to help it develop state-specific indicators and additionally an action group is working to make a Delhi model- in terms of implementation of the Act by May 2008.
