The Food and Nutrition Security Community discussion outcomes helping efforts to introduce an iron fortification program to combat anemia…
A large number of children especially adolescent girls suffer from anemia that can be addressed through iron fortification.
To help address this problem, the Society for the Popularization of Science posted a query on the Food and Nutrition Security Community to get inputs on for an iron fortification program. The program started with checkups on the hemoglobin count on schools for poor children and found a high percentage of girls had anemia. Then using inputs from the community, the NGO launched a program for iron fortification by distributing iron tablets, and also advised children and their parents to improve diet especially by use of greens and protein rich foods.
