Immunization in Difficult Areas |
|
|
The Azad India Foundation works on education and health care services used inputs gathered from a discussion on Maternal and Child Health Community to implement two programs on maternal and child health. The Azad India Foundation works on education and health care services with a special focus towards sensitization and awareness building in Kishanganj. Most of the villages they work in have limited access to primary health services as the government health services are dysfunctional or absent. Yuman Hussain of the Foundation posed a query on how to improve immunisation levels of infants and children living in remote areas with limited access to primary health services. Members responded by discussing the lack of awareness about immunisation, the problems related to inconvenient placement and timing of immunisation camps/clinics, the non-availability of vaccines, and fear many families have regarding possible side effects and ineffectiveness of immunisation. Azad India Foundation used members’ inputs to implement its two maternal and child health programs, where one of the important components is improving coverage of immunization. Shared experience and suggestions from members helped them effectively address logistical and management issues to improve coverage and plan for demand creation and trust building among communities, by providing quality services by motivated health workers.
