Efforts by the AIDS Community members helped the Governor of Goa reconsider his decision to amend the Public Health Act that requires pre-marital testing for HIV. A counselor with the Assam State AIDS Control Society sought the AIDS Community’s help to stop the Governor of Goa from implementing his decision to amend the Public Health Act that requires couples registering for marriage to be screened for HIV. Thirty-one members offered views and documentation on the issue. This effort helped to influence the Government of Goa, which eventually declared that pre-marital testing for HIV would be ‘opt-in’ or voluntary.
