Review of UNESCO’s Community Radio Manual |
|
UNESCO in collaboration with the ICTD Community and with support of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting commissioned the production of a Technical Manual for Community Radio operators… In November 2006, the Government of India approved a policy for grant of licenses for setting up community radio stations to NGOs. At a National Consultation on Community Radio targeting, held in March 2007 it was stated the 4,000 Community Radio stations could come up in India over the next few years. However, many NGOs said a major barrier to the growth of community radio is the lack of technical knowledge required to set up and run a radio station. UNESCO in collaboration with the ICTD Community and with the support of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting commissioned the production of a Technical Manual for Community Radio operators, and requested inputs from members of the ICTD community. Based on responses from members, the manual has been appropriately tailored to suit requirements of potential community radio operators. UNESCO has published a draft Technical Manual (Size: 4.1 MB).
