Influencing Urban Water Usage |
|
|
Experiences and suggestions from Water Community members contributed to the design and implementation of the interventions formulated under the Water Demand Strategy. In Madhya Pradesh, the UN Habitat on the Water for Asian Cities program is working in four cities to improve and expand urban water supply, sewerage and sanitation, water drainage and solid waste management. However, it has been found that traditional approaches increase the pressure on available water resources, and lead to over-exploitation of groundwater. The program intends to influence water usages practices, policies and measures for optimization of available water in the municipal water supply system and has proposed specific steps in the “Water Demand Management” strategy. The query posed by Aniruddhe Mukherjee sought experiences, suggestions and best practices from other parts of India which could contribute to the design and implementation of the interventions formulated within the Water Demand Strategy. The Consolidated Reply was translated into Hindi, and circulated at the Madhya Pradesh State Parliamentarians Forum for Water on 29 March 2007 by Dr. Maxine Olson, Resident Coordinator, United Nations India.
