In a vast country like India, where so many stakeholders are involved in planning and implementation of health programmes, sharing of knowledge is essential, in order to learn from past experiences and be able to use those lessons in the future. The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Community with guidance from our “Resource Group,” over the past two years has discussed a range of issues pertaining to maternal mortality, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care, referrals, reproductive health and family planning, newborn mortality, infant and neonatal care, immunization, nutrition, adolescent health, community participation, health systems, public-private partnerships in healthcare delivery. We believe in mutual sharing of knowledge and with support from members we are working towards identification of issues and exploration of choices for problem solving to improve maternal and child health in India. We invite community health workers, family planning counselors, government primary healthcare administrators, planners or policymakers in public health and nutrition sector, programme officers of donor agencies sponsoring maternal and child health initiatives, MCH programme or project managers/technicians, producers, distributors or retailers of MCH medicines, researchers, and academics to increases the effectiveness of their individual efforts by activity participating in the in the Community. Sharing knowledge and working collaboratively we can strive towards achieving India’s national development priorities, laid out in the Five-Plans, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), and Reproductive and Child Health Programme Phase II (RCH-II), along with meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Best wishes, Meghendra Banerjee & Deeksha Sharma Resource Team MCH Community
