From the Moderator

Dear Friends

Greetings!! It’s great to see so many new faces (emails actually) in the group. A warm welcome to all of you.

One e-discussion down, many more to go. I know we have missed the date for the second e-discussion, as our guest moderator was really tied up, but I assure you it will be worth waiting for him to guide us through.

Many of you know that the MCH team visits various regions from time to time, attending meetings and presenting the concept of Solution Exchange – this time it was at Symbiosis, Pune. We made some great friends and invited many management professionals to join the group. I really look forward to learning and sharing with them.

Last month, we introduced the Members’ Database, I have seen many of you going there to update your profile, please do so, because we need to have your updated information always, and now more so as some of it is also available in public domain; more on it in the membership section.

The next good news is - we have introduced the Web Based Mailgroup Forum, from where you can view and respond to messages. So you will not miss a single mail. Please give us your feedback on this new system, so that we can keep on improving. You can learn more about it in our Step by Step Guide.

Let’s also start planning for this year’s Annual MCH Community Workshop, which we want to hold tentatively in October, like last year. Please send in your ideas about the theme for this year’s workshop, place, your expectations and ways to raise funds to incorporate many more members than last year. I will get in touch with you personally on this issue, but if you have some quick ideas, I can place it to our Resource Group, who will meet next month.

Last but not the least, I would like to bid farewell to my associate Dr. Abbas, who is taking the big leap to pursue higher studies in Johns Hopkins University, later this month. I would also like to welcome Dr. Aditi Bana, who has kindly consented to fill in while we look for a replacement.

Best Wishes.

The Solution Exchange is good forum to exchange views and information on key issues affecting child survival and health. Hope the views expressed in the forum help in making a change in policy/strategies/implementation on a national MCH/child health problem.

From Rashmi Asif, CEDPA, New Delhi

Greetings! Thanks for the update.  I also thank you for putting my query regarding PPH to the MCH community. Colleagues have started referring contacts from where I may get some possible solutions. I find this world of 'SE' fascinating.

Jeevan Kuruvilla, CMC, Vellore

One of the common practices used in this part of the country to cease breast milk secretion is to bind jasmine flowers to the breast tightly. I’m interested in knowing from you about similar practices in other parts of the country for specifically stopping breast milk secretion.
