Dear

Another exciting month has passed. We have just finished the e-discussion on Posting and Transfer policy and will be following it up with a small group meeting to take it to concrete action. Our next e-discussion on “Health Financing” will start right after season’s festivities. Meanwhile the usual query response will continue, as and when you send them in.

I am also very pleased to announce the dates for the second annual meeting of the MCH community. Tentatively, it is scheduled for the first week of February 2007. This year, as many of you had suggested, we will hold it outside Delhi. The venue for our second annual meeting is Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Medical Sciences, Wardha, Maharashtra. More information will follow.

I would also like to introduce Dr. Deeksha Sharma, Research Associate – MCH Community, the new addition to the community moderation team. Deeksha has done her PhD in Food Science & Nutrition. Her specialisation is in infant feeding issues and maternal & child health. In her last assignment, at Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), she was involved in research, training and advocacy on optimal infant feeding and its impact on child nutrition and survival.

She can be reached at deeksha.sharma@undp.org or sharmade@searo.who.int  Tel: 4259-5600; ext. 23240 – WHO, 5th Floor, Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, 1 Copernicus Marg, New Delhi 110001.

Greetings of the season and best wishes,

Meghendra Banerjee

“I am pleased to be the member of the maternal and child community. It gives really good ideas. Since I am outsider to India I need to know all these ongoing activities in the field attached with the cultural issues. Therefore I am more in observer's position rather than being active and asking questions. The information that the community is providing gives us fresh ideas and thoughts for good proposal.”
