From the Resource team

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to bring you the June MCH Community Update.

This month has seen some serious debates on safety issues in laparoscopic sterilisation and mainstreaming pharmacists in reproductive health care. This discussion will continue in the next month.

This year represents the midpoint to the Millennium Development Goals, a series of events will take place in India to track progress and advocate for the MDGs, starting July. It will be useful to create awareness in our fraternity too. Please send in your ideas on how we can take this campaign forward.

The MCH Goals and Targets –

Goal 4 – Reduce Child Mortality

Target : Reduce by two-thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under-five mortality rate

Goal 5 – Improve Maternal Health

Target: Reduce by three-quarters, between 1990 and 2015, the maternal mortality ratio

For more information on Goals, Targets and Health related indicators please visit the WHO Global Site at -

http://www.who.int/mdg/goals/en/index.html

We urge you to come forward, contribute and act as a catalyst.

Best Wishes,

Meghendra Banerjee & Deeksha Sharma

Dear Friends,

On world environment day!

With global warming and its' consequence becoming real concern for the globe, one natural way of providing environmental friendly nutrition to the infants is breastfeeding. Environment was world breastfeeding week theme during 1997. The documents prepared ten years back are still relevant. Herewith, I am attaching some excerpts from the action folder prepared by BPNI for WBW 1997.

I hope, you will find it useful and thought provoking.

Dear Friends,

As you might know the Monsoon session of the Parliament is scheduled to commence from the 21st of July.

I request you to write to me regarding various issues on which you want me to ask questions or raise a debate in the Parliament.

Please note questions pertaining to local matters - like request for a bridge or school or hospital are not entertained in Parliament. Parliamentary debates are usually on general matters - more on policy issues rather than on a specific problem.

I look forward for your response

Dr. R. Senthil, Member of Parliament
