** QUERY | E-DISCUSSION | E-CONSULTATION
* Ongoing or Consolidated Reply
under preparation
Discussion is open for members of
MCH Community only. To become a member please Sign Up.
How Does it Work in Solution Exchange?
Query-Consolidated Reply.
A research service for members to obtain advice, experiences and
reference material from their peers and from documented material. Turn-around time is targeted for 7 or 12
working days, depending on a one-week (“urgent”) or a two-week (normal)
response period. Queries are often
“cross-posted” when relevant to more than one Community, allowing for additional
perspectives on an issue. The
Consolidated Reply is prepared in an “executive brief” style, with a highly
structured format so that its components can be indexed in a future
“knowledge repository.”
E-Discussion. To address and gain insights on issues of
wide concern to the Community. This
format is helpful to build a case for further development of policies and
programmes, or to fill knowledge gaps identified by Action Group “champions”
during annual meetings (see below).
E-Discussions are three-week postings, and the topics are either
selected through a poll of members, supported by a Community’s Resource Group
as being a priority issue, or commissioned as part of an Action Group
assignment.
E-Consultation. For drafters of projects, programmes,
plans, policies and legislation to obtain feedback from Community members as
an input into finalization. Solution
Exchange offers an impartial (UN-sponsored) forum for a “public hearing” on
proposals, to capture new ideas and insights for the drafters to take into
account. It also builds wider support
and buy-in for the resulting document, since members consider themselves
having been consulted in its formulation.
E-Consultations are posted with a three-week response period to allow
members to consult their non-member colleagues.
